Prof. Dirk Peppel Flöte
Dirk Peppel was born in 1964 in Frankfurt am Main and began his musical education there in 1979 as a piano student at the Hochschule Conservatory. From 1984 to 1989, he studied flute with Prof. Matthias Rütters at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. Influential artistic guidance also came from his studies in France and Switzerland with André Jaunet, Maxence Larrieux, and Jean-Pierre Rampal.
From 1987 to 2014, he served as Solo Flutist of the Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe. In addition, he has been invited to perform as a guest with more than 40 symphony, opera, and radio orchestras. Alongside his orchestral career, Dirk Peppel maintains an active profile as a chamber musician and soloist. He has appeared at major European festivals, and concert tours have taken him to North and South America, Israel, China, and Japan. Numerous recordings for German, Spanish, and Latin American radio stations, as well as various CD productions, document the breadth of his repertoire.
A further focus of his artistic work is contemporary music: as a member of the Mutare Ensemble, he has appeared at the Darmstadt Summer Course for New Music, the studio concerts of NDR Hannover, and the lunch concerts of HR. He regularly gives masterclasses in flute, chamber music, and contemporary performance, including at the Federal Academy for Young Artists in Rheinsberg, the European Academy of Music in Montepulciano, and the Wuppertal Summer of Music.
SRHFrom 1990 to 2004, he taught at the Mainz School of Music, and from 1999 to 2004 he also served as Guest Professor at the Universidad de Ciencias y Artes in Mexico. In 2004, he was appointed Professor of Flute and Chamber Music at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, Wuppertal campus. Sinc e 2014, he has also been teaching at the Rostock University of Music and Theatre.
Since his debut as a teacher and soloist in South Korea (Seoul) and China (Wuhan) in 2018, he has received regular invitations to Asia. Most recently, he appeared as a guest at the Dalian Flute Festival (2018) and gave masterclasses in Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, and Taichung in 2019.
